Since we last spoke I traveled, sewed and proofread. Thanks for the Cambodia tips — the curried water buffalo was delicious. And it was great to see you for that quick drink in New York. But what really happened since we last got together was

I had a baby. Her name is Mabel. Ted is great and Moxie is OK. I haven’t sewn much and just started writing again.

Now that we’re all caught up, let’s make a date to do it again soon. Oh, [groundbreaking band/cabaret/Regency-era costume event] is at the Fillmore? Well… maybe I can get a sitter. Brunch soon? xoxo

You’ll notice the “See me speak at SXSW” button is gone from my site. I spoke on panels in 2006 and 2007 but decided not to return to Austin this year. I like SXSW. They have free beer there. I need to concentrate on the fashion thing for now. Also: Paris!

Today I weeded out my sock drawer for mismatches and never-wears. Tomorrow I’m back to posting. Happy new year, missed you.

Right now I’m not loving retail fashion. This is a tight spot for a style writer. I have paced Maiden Lane, walked through Bloomingdales, sauntered through Hayes Valley and perused websites until my clicker finger calloused. Nothing new excites me. Sure there are lots of pretty things but nothing new. Nothing lights a fire under my custom-made Levi’s. The last thing I bought was a dress from Forever 21 which I hemmed into a tunic. I’ve written endlessly about tunics, pretty short-sleeved blouses and ballet flats. I’ve discussed belts and skinny jeans and the end of the boot cut. These are the things that populate the stores.

So to turn that frown upside down I am going to write about vintage fashion. It is the foundation of what we wear today. Vintage still rocks my world.

We’re feeling like we hate our digital clothes. A million things in the closet and nothing to wear. Molly Bloom dot com is looking for a new look. Are you a master of mastheads? Dear readers I have not forgotten you. It’s just that blogging from the beach isn’t as fun as I thought it would be. I’ll be back next week offering style suggestions for the new year.
