Tim Gunn’s Guide To Style

Penned by molly in Media

Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style debuted last week on Bravo. Consumers of fashion reality TV will know Gunn as the adviser to the contestants on Project Runway (he is also the Chief Creative Officer of fashion mega-company Liz Claiborne). He is fabulously entertaining on Project Runway. His quips of “Make it work!” and “Carry on” have made their way into everyday parlance. Or perhaps that’s just my everyday parlance, being that I spend part of my week at fashion school.

Gunn is still charming but I don’t care about makeover shows. The original BBC version of What Not To Wear is hysterical and I still can’t sit through the piles of sweatpants and a trip to the salon for corrective color and professional cut. I’d rather Gunn’s exquisite, natural-born taste be showcased at professional runway shows or department stores, telling us what works and what’s wrong. Gunn’s sidekick on the show is supermodel Veronica Webb, who hasn’t relaxed into the job. She had a few bursts of sass, which I appreciated, but her stage personality wasn’t as big as the host’s.

I’ll watch the show a time or two more. There’s something about watching strangers rifle through their closets that makes me uncomfortable, regardless of the show. But I need a little hit of Gunn to tide me over until the next Project Runway.

Does anyone else think a Veronica makeover would make a good episode?
