Test-Driving Sustainable Fibers: Flax

This is my new spring jacket. I took the picture myself, can you tell? I like the tent shape and the ribbon closure but the fact that it’s made from a flax/rayon/cotton blend sold the jacket. Flax is a sustainable, earth-friendly fiber and I was stoked to see international retailer Zara going green in this era of disposable clothes.
The bummer is that flax wrinkles like crazy. I should have thought of this because linen is made of flax and linen is legendarily wrinkly. The left shoulder has deep wrinkles from carrying my purse last week. Rayon is also wrinkly and unwieldy. Like bamboo, another sustainable fiber, this fabric has a bit of a sheen to it. The jacket hangs well — it stands out from the body a bit without being too stiff. But dang, the wrinkles.
Ummm, how cute are you!
And, btw, you said ‘legendarily wrinkly.’ Not that that’s bad.
You could always just do what Tom does: own the wrinkles. Man wears nonstop linen and just lets it go as part of his linen schtick. Or maybe it’s a fetish, I’m not sure. But it’s never, ever ironed.
