Occupational Hazard

Saurday evening I attended the lovely wedding of two friends. I wore my four-inch peep-toe pump (by Christian Loubutin as pictured above) all night. In these shoes I am 5 ft. 7 and that is why I love them. I had spares in the car — shoes of a more comfortable nature. My feet got a little sore but nothing a cocktail didn’t erase. I have worn shoes that hurt my feet from the moment they’re on until I wake up the next morning with throbbing appendages.

My feet feel fine but my legs? My legs are sore. My calves are tight. I feel like I had an especially rigorous workout with weights.

This isn’t a shopping blog and I normally don’t post about these things but there is a mad sale going on at Anthropologie. I know, I know — Anthropologie is part of a big corporation owned by the evil guy who owns Urban Outfitters. Fashion is a dirty industry and textile manufacturing is even worse. So what are you gonna do? Pick your battles.

Clothes from Anthropologie get compliments when I wear them, especially the cherry blossom cardigan and my new-ish white sailor pants. With the exception of one delicate blouse (that I wore all over China and Hong Kong, which may be the problem), my clothes from Anthropologie have maintained their quality.

Also? I appreciate being able to search a sale based on sizes. It is so not helpful to see a cute sweater on clearance only to click through to purchase and learn it’s available in XXS and XXL (lots of places do this but LL Bean, I’m talking to you).

And another thing? Anthopologie sells doorknobs! And cookbooks! And really pretty treats like milky green mugs and Audrey Hepburn coffee table books. So go buy yourself a cute dress that you maybe wouldn’t have bought at $248 but for $129 you’ll wear all the time. And get lots of kisses while wearing. Trust me.

Guy Monday: Sunglasses

Penned by molly in Guy Friday, Uncategorized

Flipping through GQ at the doctor’s office the other day I came across some good advice. By now you know that I believe in quality more than quantity when it comes to dressing. I also believe in the appropriateness of clothes. The advice: ditch the athletic shades when you’re off the field/trail/slopes. They look out of place with dressy clothes — especially a suit and tie or tuxedo. It’s kind of Guido to wear the fancy sports shades with the suit. I know you know what I mean.

If you rarely dress up (which is a shame) you can buy less expensive shades for those times. I wrote more about sunglasses last fall.

Couture Performance UPDATE

Friday I’m taking part in a couture performance at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. You should go! It’s part of the Vivienne Westwood show and is being organized by my fabulous friend Monique Jenkinson (aka Fauxnique for you Trannshack fans). It’s a celebration and walk-off in honor of couturier Mr. David. Not to give too much away but that’s Monique in the picture wearing one of the gowns I’ll be modeling.

event listing:
This performance will include some San Francisco luminaries and many of Mr. David’s original clients displaying their dream couture creations. We celebrate Vivienne Westwood and identify as her New World kin. This will be more than just a fashion show.

Friday April 13
6 - 8:30 PM
de Young Museum / Wilsey Court
Golden Gate Park, 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive, SF

The Vivienne Westwood exhibition stays open until 8:45 p.m. It costs $10 but is free for members. Come see me twirl around in fancy dresses (and four-inch heels).

Stylish At Any Size

Penned by molly in Uncategorized

I get a lot of requests for women’s sizes. Saks has some really cute stuff in Studio Z for sizes 14-24. The evening dresses are cute and the jeans selection is outstanding. Overall the blouses and tops are matronly but I imagine crafty city girls can shop elsewhere for stylish shirts.

Style Glossary: Bias Cut

Penned by molly in Style Glossary

bias cut - A garment cut on the cross or diagonal grain of a fabric. Fitted bias garments hug the shape of the body, but fuller skirts can be made on the bias for a full, sweeping effect.
